How Long Do Thread lifts Last?

How Do Thread Lifts Work?

While it might seem like a lucky few get off lightly, the ageing process affects us all. Over time, our skin (particularly in the face and neck) loses its tightness, fullness and elasticity, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to form.

This is because, as we get older, our body produces less collagen, the protein responsible for making our skin look firm, healthy and youthful-looking. To make matters worse, we naturally lose facial fat in the cheeks, mouth, jawline, chin and under-eye areas as we age, which only makes the skin appear older, saggier and tired.

The ageing process not only changes the physical makeup of our skin, but can negatively impact our self-confidence and the way we view ourselves. If we look good, we tend to feel better about ourselves, and this helps us to excel in other areas of our lives.

For many people suffering from this skin problem, a surgical face lift can sound scary, not to mention expensive. A thread lift, on the other hand, is a safer, less invasive and more affordable solution to tired and sagging skin.

What Is A Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure that rejuvenates the skin of your face and neck, making it look smoother, tighter and younger. It’s completely safe and has been carried out by medical professionals for years.

The procedure involves PDO (Polydioxanone) threads being inserted underneath your skin using a cannula, and the small structures attached to these very fine threads lift up the sagging areas of your skin. The PDO threads are correctly aligned, tightened, trimmed and secured, giving your skin a subtle but visible boost.

The threads remain in place underneath your skin -- but don’t worry, the sutures are biodegradable which means they naturally break down over time, just like dissolvable stitches.

Thread lifts are quick, effective and pain-free. The procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes, and we apply local anaesthesia to the treated areas to ensure that you’re as relaxed and comfortable as possible during the treatment.

How Long Do Thread Lifts Last?

Thread lifts generally last between 12 and 18 months. However, this is dependant upon the individual patient and their age, lifestyle, skin type and how quickly their body breaks down the sutures.

The procedure itself delivers immediate results. Once the PDO threads are correctly placed, tightened and secured underneath your skin, your skin will appear tighter, smoother and lifted straight away.

A procedure that takes less than an hour can give you results that last for up to a year and a half.

There may be a little tenderness, swelling and bruising around the treated areas, but this is usually very mild and subsides within a day or two. There is little to no downtime involved, meaning you can get straight back to work and your daily activities after the treatment is finished.

Once everything has settled down, you can expect to see final results in 10 to 14 days.

One of the best things about thread lifts is how they deliver ongoing results long after you leave the clinic. When the threads are placed underneath your skin, the body views it as an “injury,” kickstarting its natural healing process. Don’t worry, this is totally normal. It’s just how the body works when it senses a foreign object within the dermis (a layer of skin underneath the surface).

Part of this healing process involves the body reactivating its production of collagen (the amazing protein we talked about before) and directing large amounts of it to the “injured” areas. Infusing your skin with collagen combats the ageing process by hydrating, thickening and strengthening your skin. In other words, your skin is restoring and rejuvenating itself long after you’ve left the clinic.

The PDO threads will remain underneath your skin for between 6 and 12 months. They’re completely safe and biodegradable, which means they naturally break down over time. You won’t feel any side effects from the sutures dissolving, nor will you be able to feel the threads underneath your skin once the skin around them heals.

After the sutures fully dissolve, you can expect to see results for another 6 months on average until the body’s production of collagen slows down.

Due to the safe and non-invasive nature of thread lifts, repeated treatments can be carried out if necessary.
